What Is French Blending?

If you're starting to notice a few greys around your hairline or parting, you might feel that permanent root colour is a bigger commitment than you need. This is where French Blending™ comes in.

French Blending™ is a professional colour technique developed by L'Oréal Professionnel, designed to blend grey hair rather than simply cover it. Using delicate, strategically placed colour and bespoke colour combinations, we can soften the contrast between your grey hairs and the rest of your colour. The aim isn't to cover every grey. Instead, we create a subtle, dimensional blend so those silver strands become part of the overall look.

It's a lovely option if you'd like your greys to be a little less noticeable without feeling as though you're constantly battling regrowth.

What If I Want to Embrace More of My Grey?

If you have more grey coming through, there are plenty of ways we can help you work with it.

Our Blend to Grey option can use toners, glosses or semi-permanent colour to soften visible lines while allowing your natural grey to shine through.

If you're ready to embrace even more silver, Embrace the Grey can incorporate techniques such as highlighting, balayage and face-framing colour to merge your natural grey with the rest of your hair.

What is French Blending™?

French Blending™ is a trademarked professional colour service developed by L’Oréal Professionnel. Rather than completely covering grey hair with one solid colour, it uses bespoke colour combinations and specialist application techniques to blend greys into the rest of the hair. The aim is a soft, multidimensional finish with less obvious regrowth.

What is the difference between Grey Blending and French Blending?

Grey Blending is a broader term for colour techniques designed to soften and incorporate natural grey hair rather than completely covering it. This might involve highlights, lowlights, balayage, toners or glosses. French Blending™ is L’Oréal Professionnel's specific approach to grey blending, using tailored colour recipes and its Vertical Weaving Technique to create a natural, dimensional result.

Is French Blending suitable for my first grey hairs?

Yes! French Blending can be a lovely option if you're beginning to notice greys around areas such as your hairline or parting but don't want to commit to permanent root coverage. Your Bloom colourist can subtly blend these areas into your existing colour, helping your greys feel less noticeable while keeping the overall result beautifully natural.

Can Grey Blending help me transition to my natural grey?

Do I need a consultation before booking Grey or French Blending?

We recommend a colour consultation so your stylist can assess your natural grey pattern, existing colour, hair condition and previous colour history. Just as importantly, we'll chat about what you'd actually like to achieve – whether that's subtly disguising a few greys, creating softer regrowth or embracing more of your natural silver.
